Iago | 4' x 7'9

$985.00

Materials: 100% wool, hand-knotted pile on a cotton foundation

Origin: Eastern Turkey

Date: 1970s

Notes: This pile rugs uses motifs typically found in Turkish kilims. The rugmaker wove four scorpions into the central medallion as a way of protecting its eventual owner from their harm; in the two large diamonds, the rugmaker wove one of the most popular kilim motifs: a joined “hands on hips” and “rams horn” motif, meant to represent (and therefore create!) a happy home. The design of the scattered bird and flowers throughout the rest of the rug are evidence of the rug’s nomadic origin.
